Being Bewakoof-Part I

Hello lovelies, today’s post is going to be in collaboration with Bewakoof.com. There has been several online ventures coming up in the past year now but Bewakoof has proved itseld to be completely different by it’s collection of the quirkiest casual/comfy clothing starting from t-shirts,t-shirt dresses ,sweatshirts, crop topsand even pajamas for both men and women.

There’s been a slight chill in the air right from the start of November,it’s neither sweater weather nor the time you can flaunt crop tops.

The perfect look for me these days is a sleeveless  t-shirt (my favourites are from Bewakoof.com as their t-shirt collection is just to die for, just like the one I am wearing.) and shrug. If you are a college going student,it would be a great thing to have  collection of a few shrugs and just to drop one on yourself each morning during these fall days and save yourself the fuss.

The grocery store isn’t the only place, you will be seeing pineapples. Print trends are synonymous with every season but pineapples are a refreshing than ever take on it.

The pineapple is no longer only a delicious fruit but an important element in fashions too. The ubiquitous pinapple, the coolest fruit which literally says in the language of flowers ‘You are so perfect.’.

The zingy tropical fruit has been popping up everywhere from cushions to straws to phone cases to shorts, next month you may even want to decorate your Christmas Tree with a pinapple ornament.

You may have worn a shrug in the past but didn’t know that it is called this.

Shrug,in layman’s term is a short cropped version of an open fronted  jacket. The best thing about shrugs is,they can be paired, accessorised and styled with almost everything from a dress to skinny jeans. Shrugs come I’m a myriad of shaped, materials and design. From petal sleeves to full sleeves, from simple knit to a sequined one, there is no end to experimenting.

I love how shrugs can very helpful against cold weather but at the same does not ruin your outfit.

Fanushi 4.0-Diwali Redefined

Hello, everyone. Today’s post is going to be slightly different from everything else on my blog.

Sky Lanterns, something we have all heard of and may have even seen a couple of times in movies during romantic sequences and also in television shows, but there’s not enough we actually know about them. Sky lanterns are distinguised by their air borne beauty, and releasing them symbolise hope as well as letting go of one’s worries and problems. They are delightful constructions from oiled rice paper that is fixed on a bamboo frame with a candle inside, which on liting, heats up the air present and the lantern rises up by a gentle push.

In Bengali called Fanush,it’s popularity can be traced back to the early 1900’s when north kolkata lanes glimmered with the presence of these lanterns but post 1990,they slowly disappeared but now again they are wide available in a vibrant array of colours in Chinese markets. During Kali Puja and Diwali this year,Fanush has made a great comeback as a more ecologically friendly alternative  to the polluting firecrackers that give out oodles of smoke and blow out in seconds when a sky lantern can burn upto two to three  hours at a time and  promotes a noise-free festival as well.

Supporting the idea of a Green Diwali, Calcutta Instagrammers, the largest Instagram community of Kolkata founded by Sammya Brata played host to Fanushi 4.0,bigger and better than the previous editions, this time Vivekananda Park’s sky was full of 1500 such lanterns on 30th October, the day of Diwali at Vivekananda Park.

1.How had the idea of organizing a Sky Lantern Festival in Kolkata, itself had come to your mind?

– Well, organizing Sky Lantern Festivals is pretty popular in China or Taiwan where they release approximately 1000 lanterns at the same time. I have been flipping through the drool-worthy photographs on the internet and the idea of doing it in Calcutta suddenly cropped up. The city has a fabulous base of photographers and I was convinced that the post-event-visuals would be spectacular. This is our second year by the way; the response this time around has been mind-blowing. Thanks to the ones who came in and supported our initiative of promoting Green Diwali.

2.Had Fanushi 4.0 been at par with your expectations or better?

– Much better than expected. I had initially floated the event for our own community but it was astonishing to see how it went viral within a very shot span of time. Never did I expect that 1000+ people would turn up for this event.

3.Calcutta Instagrammers, has come a long way from being just a Facebook group consisting of a few members, what is your take on the influence of social media on the growth of startups, blogs or just any business?

– Being an experienced photo-blogger myself, I reckon social media has opened up so many avenues for bloggers.

Sharing one of my recent interviews with the Times of India in this context, do take a look: http://www.educationtimes.com/article/269/2016071120160708200609226baacc8d7/Blog-smart.html

4.Lastly, what is your vision for IG Calcutta in the near future?

– We plan to register our brand formally by December 2016. We are also working on our own App and website that would be launched very soon; we also have plans of creating a platform where aspiring photographers can sell their work leveraging the internet.

Here is what you thought about it:

My experience was amazing. Calcutta instagrammers have done a wonderful job organising this beautiful event. Well, what I liked was the craze of photographers, me being one too. The rushing of the photographers towards the fanushis, and clicking as much as possible in the best way they can(sitting, lying, standing and whatever position was necessary). It was my first time witnessing such a beautiful lit sky not with crackers but with fanushs.

I generally don’t approve of bursting firecrackers, so this Diwali Calcutta Instagrammers gave us an opportunity to be a part of this massive Fanush event. I really enjoyed this experience of lighting a Fanush and see it fly up in the air. The only glitch at the event was there were too many people less Fanush so I only could light up one but maybe next year this glitch would be sorted. I am proud to spend my Diwali by lighting up sky lanterns.

A Big Thank you to everyone who made this post possible!

I personally believe that whether they float in the air or spread illumination as home decor, sky lanterns are a delight in the way they fill the air with a cheerful attitude.
